I’m often asked why my hand-knits cost more than many others you see online, so I wanted to share the reason.

There are countless beautiful baby knits on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and beyond — mine included — but one thing that still surprises me is how rarely people ask what the garment is actually made from.

I’ll admit it: I’m a yarn snob. Not to upset any fellow knitters, but mums and grandparents… the fibre really matters.

Many items are knitted in acrylic. It’s cheap, cheerful, soft, and easy to throw in the washing machine — nothing wrong with that at all.

But natural fibres like Merino and Cashmere are a completely different experience. They’re now machine-washable too, but they’re also breathable, temperature-regulating, and far kinder to delicate baby skin.

Acrylic — budget-friendly, durable, hypoallergenic, bright colours, but less breathable and prone to pilling.

Merino & Cashmere — premium, soft, insulating, breathable, and beautifully gentle. Cashmere gives that silky, cloud‑soft feel; Merino offers strength, comfort, and everyday practicality.
